What does the passport photo maker do?

How many passport photos fit on a 4x6 print?

Eight 35 x 45 mm photos fit on a standard 4 x 6 in (10 x 15 cm) print with the default 3 mm margin and 2 mm gap, because the tool turns them sideways when that packs in more. Six 2 x 2 in US photos fit on the same sheet. An A4 sheet holds up to 36 photos at 35 x 45 mm. The header of the panel always shows the live count for your current settings.

Which passport photo sizes are supported?

35 x 45 mm (UK, Schengen, India, Australia, New Zealand), 2 x 2 in / 51 x 51 mm (US passport, US visa, green card), 50 x 70 mm (Canada, Brazil), 33 x 48 mm (China), 30 x 40 mm (Japan resume, Korea ID), 25 x 35 mm (Indian stamp size, Mexico), 35 x 35 mm (PAN card and other square IDs), and 40 x 60 mm (Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia). There is also a custom size box that accepts any width and height in millimetres or inches.

Which paper sizes can I print on?

Every mainstream photo paper: 3.5 x 5 in (3R), 4 x 6 in (4R / 10 x 15 cm), 5 x 7 in (5R / 13 x 18 cm), 6 x 8 in (6R), 8 x 10 in (8R), 8 x 12 in (S8R), 11 x 14 in, plus A6, A5, A4, A3, Letter, Legal, and Tabloid. Portrait and landscape orientations are both available. 4 x 6 in is the size photo kiosks and drugstore print counters use, which is why it is the default.

How do I make sure the printed photos are the right physical size?

Download the PDF and print it at 100% (sometimes labelled 'Actual size' or 'None' under scaling) rather than 'Fit to page'. The PDF page is created at the exact millimetre dimensions of your chosen paper, so at 100% every photo lands at its true size. If you print the JPG or PNG instead, the file carries a DPI tag (300 by default) that Windows Photo Printing, macOS Preview, and photo labs read - but the print dialog's scaling setting still has to be 100%.

Can I put different photos on the same sheet?

Yes. Upload several photos and the sheet is split evenly between them - four photos on an eight-up sheet gives two copies of each, with the copies kept next to each other so the cut stacks stay sorted. Turn 'Fill the sheet' off if you want a specific number of copies per photo instead. This is the fast way to print ID photos for a whole family on one sheet.

Can I adjust how the face is framed in each photo?

Yes. Each photo is centre-cropped to the ID size's aspect ratio by default, and the Framing controls let you zoom in and nudge the crop left, right, up, or down for the selected photo. Tap a thumbnail to switch which photo you are framing. Most passport authorities want the head to fill roughly 70-80% of the frame with a little space above it - the zoom slider is what you use to hit that.

Does this check my photo against passport rules?

No. This is a layout and printing tool, not a compliance checker. It gets the physical dimensions exactly right, but it does not verify head height, background colour, expression, glasses, shadows, or the other biometric rules your passport authority applies. Start from a photo that already meets those rules - plain light background, neutral expression, even lighting, no headwear - and use this tool to print it at the correct size.

What DPI should I use?

300 DPI is the default and the photo-lab standard - a 4 x 6 in sheet comes out at 1200 x 1800 pixels, which is what kiosk printers expect. 600 DPI doubles that for high-end inkjet printing and makes a noticeably larger file. 150 DPI is only worth using for a quick draft on plain paper. Your source photo matters too: a 35 x 45 mm print at 300 DPI needs about 413 x 531 pixels of real detail, so any modern phone photo has more than enough.

What are the margin, gap, and white border controls for?

Margin is the blank strip kept clear around the whole sheet - useful because most home printers cannot print to the very edge. Gap is the space between neighbouring photos, which gives you room for the scissors. White border adds a frame inside each individual photo, the classic look some authorities and photo booths use. All three are in millimetres and update the live preview instantly.

Why is my photo turned sideways in the preview?

That is 'Auto-rotate to fit more' doing its job. Turning 35 x 45 mm photos on their side fits eight on a 4 x 6 sheet instead of six. Each cut-out piece is still 35 x 45 mm with an upright face once you turn it the right way up - it only lies sideways on the sheet. Switch the toggle off if you would rather keep every photo upright on the paper.

Where can I print the sheet?

Anywhere that prints photos: a home inkjet with photo paper, a drugstore or supermarket photo kiosk, or an online print service. For a kiosk, upload the JPG and choose a 4 x 6 print with 'no crop' or 'full frame' selected so the machine does not zoom in. For home printing, use the PDF at 100% scaling, select the correct paper size in the printer driver, and turn borderless printing off if you set a margin.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is decoded, cropped, tiled onto a canvas, and encoded as JPG, PNG, or PDF entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and there is no watermark on the output. Verify it by opening the DevTools Network tab while you build a sheet, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads - the tool keeps working.

Getting the physical size right

Pick the photo size and the paper size, and the tool fits as many copies as physically will go, centred on the sheet. Sizes are held in millimetres, so 2 x 2 in is a true 50.8 mm square rather than a rounded approximation. The count at the top right of the panel updates live as you change paper, margin, or gap - eight 35 x 45 mm photos on a 4 x 6 print, six 2 x 2 in, thirty-six 35 x 45 mm on A4.

Printing at 100%

Always print at 100% - it may be labelled 'Actual size' or scaling 'None'. 'Fit to page' rescales the sheet and every photo comes out the wrong size. The PDF export builds its page at the paper's exact millimetre dimensions so 100% is a one-to-one print. The JPG and PNG exports carry a real DPI tag (300 by default) that Windows Photo Printing, macOS Preview, and photo labs read, but the print dialog's scaling setting still has to be 100%.
